Week 1

28 Hours

May 24-27, 2022

On my first day at D3, I was given a work email address: morgan@d3corp.com which I have used throughout my internship experience. I went on an office tour and introduced myself to my new coworkers. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and super supportive. Once I was assigned a desk, I created a Slack account because that is how everyone in the office communicates with one another. My supervisor added me to the project management (PM) system so I could see and manage all of my assigned tasks. I set up bookmarks with saved login credentials so I could work more efficiently. Overall I am thrilled to work with experienced marketing and public relation professionals because they will help me determine my career goals in this industry.

Week 2

33.5 Hours

May 31-June 3, 2022

Most of my work at D3 involves creating/changing content for Explore OC social accounts. This includes  Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter as well as our own website exploreoc.com

The primary purpose of Explore OC is to promote tourism around the Ocean City area. I have been working with live client accounts in several different industries to update their listings and encourage viewers' engagement. During my second week, I read through recent release notes on Sprout Social to prepare for the certification process. Sprout Social is a social media management and intelligence tool that D3 employees use to manage conversations and surface the actionable insights that drive real business impact. I completed the following sections of the Sprout training before taking the certification test: Admin Basics, Publishing, Engagement, Analytics, and Intro to the Sprout Mobile App. I passed the Sprout Social Platform Certification Test and received a copy of my certificate.

Week 3
32 Hours

June 6-10, 2022

This week I learned the phone call procedures at D3. Before answering my first call, my team provided a phone tree and documents about proper phone etiquette. It is essential that someone from the office picks up the phone within 3 rings, and answer with: "Good (morning, afternoon), thank you for calling D3, this is (your name), how may I help you?" It is imperative that you request the name and company that you are speaking to so you can provide those details to the person receiving the call. You should never use slang when speaking to a client. It is important to be courteous when addressing the client by asking them if they are okay with being placed on hold before doing so, or asking if someone else can assist them if the person requested is unavailable. Before hanging up the phone, ask if the client needs anything else.

On Wednesday, June 8 I attended my first meeting with the D3 marketing team. A written agenda was provided prior to our meeting so people had the opportunity to prepare and add anything they would like to discuss. Theresa began the conversation with a Search Engine Optimization (SEO), ID3AS updates, information about the D3 Site Launch from Heather, and an update about the Salisbury Chamber from Jenni. We concluded the meeting by brainstorming ideas for potential topics regarding the marketing and media presentation at the end of the summer. Everyone worked together efficiently and remained focused from start to finish.

Week 4
35 Hours

June 13-17, 2022

Following Air Show Weekend, there was a lot of social media content to go through. It was my responsibility to go through #exploreocmd on Instagram/Facebook and like any post that included this hashtag. Engaging with followers on social media is incredibly important.

On Wednesday, June 15 I attended my first event in the field. Our client, George's Beverage Company, was promoting their newest product at M.R. Duck's 40th-anniversary party. Old Bay Vodka was sponsoring this event so I went to take pictures and network with everyone there. People were handing out Old Bay Vodka sunglasses and t-shirts to spread the word about this new product. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to attend this event as a representative of D3 because I got to know the client on a personal and professional level. I hope I can have similar experiences throughout my summer internship with this company.

Week 5
36 Hours

June 20-24, 2022

This week I was given the opportunity to write a blog post using WordPress. I was assigned to write about the Grand Hotel and Spa and incorporate the upcoming 4th of July events. I was given some guidelines on what makes a great blog post so I relied heavily on that template while writing. I was told I should include all the necessary information in 300-500 words. The goal was to encourage readers to choose the Grand Hotel as their vacation destination.

Since I began the training process for Google Analytics, I have been assigned to go through all of the D3 accounts and record them in a shared spreadsheet. After listing all the accounts, I was responsible for recording all properties within each account. Although this task was tedious, it significantly helped the D3 team stay organized.

Week 6

37 Hours

June 27- July 1, 2022

This week I attended my first staff meeting which everyone from D3 attended. Before diving into the meeting agenda, my supervisor gave me the opportunity to formally introduce myself because people from the Salisbury office have not worked with me directly. Jay Bosley conducted the meeting and asked a representative from each team to provide updates. The three teams are designers, developers, and client service managers. It was incredibly informative to sit in the staff meeting to see how everyone works together and overcomes various obstacles. For example, half the staff attended this meeting virtually so we ran into some technical difficulties. If someone's audio were to be cut out, Jay would move on to the next portion of the meeting agenda and go back to that person at the end. The meeting lasted approximately 45 minutes and everyone had the opportunity to share their idea and address unfinished business at the end.

Week 7
16 Hours

July 4-8, 2022

Due to the holiday weekend, I did not log as many hours this week. When I returned to the office, I worked with one of the lead client service managers to go over the D3 ticket system. Whenever a client sends an email making a request or reporting a problem, we refer to it as a "ticket" and create a task in our project management (PM) system. It is essential that someone from the D3 teams responds to clients in a timely manner and keeps track of their tickets and tasks.

Week 8
33 Hours

July 11-15, 2022

This week, I continued learning how to use the D3 ticket system and I was asked to make tasks/edits for various clients using the PM. It was imperative to fully understand what the client is requesting so I could relay the message to the proper department. A majority of the tickets that I dealt with involved quick website updates. If I was given admin access, I would make the updates myself rather than assign them to someone else in the office. I have enjoyed this learning experience because I have been given proper training on how to manage tickets/tasks and make updates using WordPress.

Week 9

36 Hours

July 18-22, 2022

I was responsible for creating social media content for the White Marlin Open using Sprout. I would email the client and let them know that our team was working on fulfilling their requests, and afterward, I confirm any changes with the client. This week it was crucial that our team completed a content calendar for the "week before" "week of" and "week after" the White Marlin Open (WMO). Each post included a graphic which was made by the D3 team, a clever caption, hashtags, and tags for each sponsor. The client requested we made Facebook and Instagram posts for each sponsor level (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond, Platinum, and Grand Slam). It was challenging creating so much content in a short period of time, but our team worked together to finish the job on time.

Week 10

38 Hours

June 25-29, 2022

This week I was trained by a member of our print department. I learned the basics of how to post a print task in the D3 PM, we discussed the common print orders (business cards, postcards, rack cards) and the standard costs for this type of request. Every edit regarding print should include the size, quantity, paper type, and shipping/billing information. This work involves our design team so it is essential for us to provide all the information they need to complete their task in a timely manner. Since D3 uses a third-party print company, it is incredibly important we explain the potential delay to our clients.

Week 11
40 Hours

August 1-5, 2022

In the final week of my internship, we had multiple meetings and celebrations in the office. On Wednesday, August 3 our team met in the conference room for our monthly staff meeting. Each department had the chance to update the team on the latest assignments and set expectations for the future. Everyone agreed that we will need all hands on deck during the White Marlin Open because it is the world's largest and richest billfish tournament. Once we finished discussing everything on the agenda, our team celebrated our CEO's birthday with cupcakes!

Overall I could not be happier about my internship experience. I will continue working at D3 part-time throughout the school year and hopefully full-time when I graduate!
